Finally...! A true international pétanque
tournament in the USA
In 2003, we
took the bold step to organize a first national open tournament in Miami
Beach: a bit hidden away, at 31st St. It
was small but successful: wonderful weather, the teams were on a roll, the
atmosphere was just perfect, both on and off the courts.
The Miami Herald,
and
Dave Barry - America's favorite humor columnist - wrote about it (in over
500 newspapers) and
we remain eternally grateful for the
exposure they gave the game.
Since then even more people took up petanque and from all over the country
we got requests to do it again. Thanks to the co-operation of the City of
Miami Beach,
the US Petanque Federation and
several sponsors and clubs this weekend will be the largest
petanque happening ever in the country - right
on South Beach.
Close to 80 teams have signed up, most of them flying in from 14 US States,
Canada, France and Germany. You will see some spectacular throws, when
players knock out opponent's 'boules' as far as 30 feet away.

Everyone
is welcome to watch the competition, give the game a try
and join in pick-up games we will organize
around the main courts.
Players will be on hand to teach, and 'boules' available
to borrow. Bring the entire family to watch this simple,
social, yet very competitive game.
